Health and Safety Tips for Families and Parks
What was supposed to be a special year for many has been nothing but unexpected events, as we all know. With schools going back in session, summer 2020 is mostly behind us now, closing out what is likely a lost summer of childhood for so many kids. While it wasn’t a break full of running around with friends, pool days, and memories made at the theme park, we can start to look ahead at how 2020 can still be a special year for children.
Low-traffic parks and communities might start considering making their play areas available, adhering to CDC guidelines. Zoom Recreation, a team of trusted professionals for quick ship playgrounds, is here to explore the ways to keep safe for clean playground play in 2020 and allow you to get a playground installed quickly before the end of the year.
Encouraging Safe Play in 2020
A Guide for Families
As of August 2020, the CDC encourages families to use discretion when using playgrounds. It is considered safe only if CDC health and safety recommendations are closely followed. Check in advance if the park you plan on visiting is currently open.
When to Stay Home
The CDC does not recommend visiting the parks if you are sick, have tested positive, or have any symptoms of COVID-19 (sore throat, coughing, loss of smell, etc.). This applies to all public areas, including playgrounds.
Per CDC recommendations, everyone is encouraged to maintain a six-foot distance away from people they don’t live with. This is applicable on playgrounds by not allowing children from different households closely play alongside each other.
Also consider the distance traveled to visit a playground. Stay local to minimize the risk of the spread of COVID-19.
One of the best ways to stay safe and clean while playing is for families to take initiative to do their part. If everyone follows the CDC’s guidelines, play areas can be as safe as possible during this time.
Per the CDC’s website, “Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Adults and older children who can safely use hand sanitizer: Use hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol and rub hands together until dry, if soap and water are not readily available.”
Additionally, families are encouraged to not touch their faces, including the eyes, mouth, or nose.
A Guide for Parks and Communities
Parks can encourage social distancing in a few different ways:
- Limit capacity
- Space out benches and seating areas
- Place social distancing markers where lines or crowds may form
- Display signage that clearly states health and safety requirements
It’s encouraged to keep all amenities and equipment properly cleaned and sanitized routinely. Additionally, it may be a benefit to provide ample hand washing and hand sanitizing stations.
