We understand that purchasing commercial shade structures that comply with all California safety standards can be a difficult task to navigate. That’s why we work with Superior Shade, a certified fabricator for the City of Los Angeles (LADBS) and California Division of the State Architect (DSA). With a DSA approved shade structure, California public schools, colleges, and other state-owned facilities can rest assured knowing the shade structures provided by Zoom Recreation are precheck approved.

Our standard shade fabric is engineered for safety and performance rather than full water impermeability. It is fire-retardant and compliant with NFPA 701 or ASTM E84 testing requirements, with most fabric options also approved by the California Fire Marshal (excluding select colors). While not intended to be waterproof, the material allows rainfall to disperse naturally—shedding roughly 80% of water while the remainder filters through as a light mist.
Designed for long-term outdoor performance, Zoom Recreation's fabrics include a ten-year limited manufacturer’s warranty from the date of delivery, protecting against material failure caused by fading, discoloration, deterioration, and prolonged exposure to heat or cold.
The canopy is designed for minimal long-term maintenance. The primary service consideration is maintaining proper cable tension, which may require cable replacement approximately every five years. We recommend to remove the fabric in the case of intense weather, like heavy rain or snow.
Some colors, like red and yellow, are more prone to fading than other colors. Our manufacturer, Superior Shade, include a separate, limited warranty specifically covering fading for these colors, with a reduced coverage period of approximately two years.
