Shades Structure Warranty

Zoom Recreation provides commercial shade structures backed by comprehensive manufacturer warranty coverage. Our team is available to help you understand your warranty, gather the required documentation, and coordinate eligible claims with the applicable manufacturer.

Warranty coverage begins on the original invoice date and applies once the product has been paid for in full. Coverage is valid only when the product has been properly stored, assembled, installed, used, and maintained according to the manufacturer’s written instructions.

Shade Structure Warranty Coverage

Qualifying shade structures and components include the following coverage:

  • Lifetime Limited Warranty: Stainless steel hardware
  • 20-Year Limited Warranty: Structural steel framework
  • 10-Year Limited Warranty: Qualifying shade fabric
  • 5-Year Limited Warranty: Factory-applied powder coating
  • 1-Year Limited Warranty: Cables
  • 1-Year Limited Warranty: Materials and components not otherwise listed

Coverage applies to qualifying defects in materials, manufacturing workmanship, and structural integrity during normal use and under normal environmental conditions.

Product-specific warranty coverage may vary. The warranty documentation associated with the product and manufacturer will determine the final coverage terms.

Warranty Requirements

Warranty coverage is valid only when the shade structure has been:

  • Properly stored before installation
  • Installed according to the manufacturer’s instructions and approved drawings
  • Assembled using approved parts and components
  • Used only for its intended purpose
  • Properly inspected and maintained
  • Protected from forecasted weather conditions that exceed its engineered limitations

General care and maintenance must be performed according to the instructions provided at the time of delivery.

Structural Steel Limited Warranty

Qualifying structural steel frames include a 20-year Limited Warranty against structural failure caused by rust-through corrosion under normal environmental conditions.

When replacement parts are approved under this warranty, the manufacturer may provide replacement components according to the following schedule:

  • Years 1 through 10: Qualifying replacement parts provided at no charge
  • Years 11 through 20: Replacement parts prorated at 10% per year

Qualifying workmanship related to the structural steel framework is covered for five years.

Structural steel coverage does not apply when damage is caused by:

  • Improper installation
  • Damage caused by an installer or third party
  • Physical impact
  • Salt spray
  • Sprinkler systems
  • Chemicals or chlorine
  • Pollution
  • Misuse or vandalism
  • Abnormal site conditions
  • Events outside the manufacturer’s control

Shipping, removal, labor, reinstallation, and other site-related costs may not be included in the warranty.

Powder Coat Limited Warranty

Qualifying factory-applied powder coating includes a five-year Limited Warranty for the original purchaser.

This warranty applies only to the original factory-applied finish. Damage caused by shipping, installation, vandalism, accidents, improper handling, or field modifications is not covered.

Any coating damage that occurs during shipping or installation must be touched up immediately and maintained periodically to prevent corrosion. Powder coat defects should be reported when installation is completed.

The following areas may not be covered:

  • Acute angles
  • Welds
  • End plates
  • Areas damaged after leaving the factory
  • Areas that were not properly touched up or maintained

When applied and maintained according to the manufacturer’s recommendations, qualifying powder coating is expected to meet the following standards after five years of exposure:

  • Retain its original color within a ΔE of less than 7.5 units for high-chroma colors and less than 5.0 units for low-chroma colors when tested according to ASTM D 2244
  • Retain at least 50% of its original gloss level after washing when tested according to ASTM D 523
  • Exhibit chalking no worse than a numerical rating of 6 when evaluated according to ASTM D 659-80

Shade Fabric Limited Warranty

Qualifying traditional shade fabric manufactured with high-strength, low-shrinkage PTFE fiber and qualifying waterproof fabric include a 10-year Limited Warranty.

This coverage applies to qualifying defects in materials and manufacturing workmanship. It also covers qualifying sewing thread against damage caused by normal exposure to sunlight, weather, and water.

Qualifying fabric may also be covered against failure caused by:

  • Significant fading
  • Deterioration
  • Material breakdown
  • Normal outdoor heat
  • Normal outdoor cold
  • Discoloration beyond the applicable warranty standard

When a fabric replacement is approved, the manufacturer may provide replacement fabric according to the following schedule:

  • Years 1 through 6: Qualifying replacement fabric provided at no charge
  • Years 7 through 10: Replacement fabric prorated at 18% per year

Labor, removal, reinstallation, freight, and other project-related expenses may not be included.

Fabric Color Limitations

Red and yellow fabrics are covered against significant fading for two years.

Minor color variation, normal weathering, and changes that do not materially affect the performance of the fabric may not qualify as warrantable defects.

Fabric Installation Requirements

When the corners of the fabric include both a reinforced fabric opening and a reinforcing strap, both attachment points must be placed over the corresponding corner hook.

Failure to properly secure both the fabric opening and reinforcing strap may void the fabric warranty.

Fabric coverage may also be voided when:

  • The fabric is installed incorrectly
  • The fabric is installed on an unapproved structure
  • The fastening system is not properly secured
  • The canopy is not properly tensioned
  • Modifications are made to rafters, crosspieces, ridge beams, cables, or fastening components
  • The fabric is altered, cut, repaired, or modified without written manufacturer approval

Fabric curtains, valances, and flat vertical fabric panels are not covered under this warranty.

Wind and Weather Requirements

Qualifying shade fabric is warranted for:

  • Sustained winds up to 76 mph
  • Wind gusts lasting no longer than three seconds at speeds up to 90 mph

Shade fabric must be removed when damaging winds are forecast.

Damage caused by snow or ice accumulation is not covered. Canopies should be removed during the off-season and whenever severe weather conditions may exceed the structure or fabric’s engineered limits.

Qualifying shade structures may be rated for winds up to 90 mph or 105 mph only when the shade canopy has been removed according to the manufacturer’s requirements.

Removal and reinstallation must be performed by a qualified professional or authorized installer.

Modifications and Attachments

The warranty is void if changes, modifications, additions, or attachments are made to the shade structure without prior written approval from the manufacturer.

Signs, ornaments, fans, lights, fixtures, decorations, or other objects may not be attached to or suspended from the structure unless they were specifically designed and engineered for the structure or have received written manufacturer approval.

General Warranty Exclusions

Warranty coverage does not include damage or failure resulting from:

  • Incorrect assembly or installation
  • Improper storage before installation
  • Failure to follow installation or maintenance instructions
  • Unauthorized repairs, additions, alterations, or modifications
  • Misuse, abuse, vandalism, accidents, or abnormal use
  • Normal wear and tear

Warranty Remedies and Limitations

The applicable manufacturer may repair or replace an approved defective component at its discretion. A defective component does not automatically entitle the customer to a completely new shade structure.

The manufacturer may alter the design, color, material, or other contributing factors of a replacement component to correct the condition and help prevent it from occurring again.

Unless otherwise approved in writing, warranty coverage does not include:

  • Site visits
  • Inspection expenses
  • Labor
  • Removal of existing components
  • Reinstallation of replacement components
  • Freight or transportation
  • Equipment rental
  • Loss of use
  • Customer downtime
  • Indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or liquidated damages
  • Costs associated with returning a product or component for inspection

The customer may be responsible for returning the affected product or component for inspection along with proof of purchase.

No representative may change, expand, or add to the manufacturer’s warranty obligations unless the change is authorized in writing.

Lifetime Warranty Definition

For the purpose of this warranty, “lifetime” does not represent a specific number of years. It refers to the period during which the original customer owns the product and continues to use it for its intended purpose.

Lifetime coverage does not include damage caused by vandalism, misuse, abuse, unauthorized modifications, altered components, cosmetic damage, fading, weathering, or normal wear and tear.

Warranty claims must be submitted within the applicable warranty period and accompanied by the original sales order or invoice number.
